Russian opposition:
Opposition politicians and NGOs hold a two-day "Other Russia" conference in Moscow ahead of the G8 summit meeting in St Petersburg. Kremlin officials have reportedly urged Western governments not to send representatives.

UN united:
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel attend the opening of a new UN "campus" in Bonn, bringing together several UN organisations on the same site.
Srebrenica remembered:
The families of nearly 8,000 Muslim men and boys killed by Bosnian Serb forces in Srebrenica mark the 11th anniversary of the massacre and bury newly identified bodies. UN chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte will attend.

Microsoft ruling:
The European Union is due to decide what action to take against computer software giant Microsoft for anti-competitive practices.
Rebel talks:
The Ugandan government and Lords Resistance Army rebels are scheduled to start peace talks in the southern Sudanese town of Juba. The negotiations are seen as northern Uganda's best chance for peace in years.
Independence day:
The tiny Principality of Liechtenstein - population 34,000 in 2003 - celebrates 200 years of independence. Perched in the Alps between Austria and Switzerland, it covers only 160 sq km (61.8 sq miles).
THURSDAY 13 JULY
Pipeline launch:
The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline is officially inaugurated. It will carry oil and gas 1,600km (1,000 miles) from the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan across Georgia to the Turkish port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean.
Shakespeare's finest:
A rare first folio edition of William Shakespeare's plays is expected to be sold at Sotheby's auction house in London. The edition, considered to be one of the most important in English literature, may fetch more than £3m ($5.5m).
Merkel at home to Bush: US President George W Bush visits Chancellor Angela Merkel's parliamentary district in Stralsund, northeastern Germany.
FRIDAY 14 JULY
Bush meets Putin:
Mr Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin hold a bilateral meeting on the eve of the G8 summit in St Petersburg.
War crimes trial:
The trial is due to start at the UN tribunal in The Hague of seven former Bosnian Serb officers charged with war crimes over the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.
Bastille Day:
French President Jacques Chirac marks the national holiday, commemorating the 1789 French Revolution, with an annual televised interview.
SATURDAY 15 JULY
Russia debut:
The leaders of the G8 group of nations - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK and the US - meet in St Petersburg. It is the first time Russia, which holds the presidency for 2006, is hosting the summit.
Techno tunes:
The techno music festival Love Parade returns to Berlin after a two-year break. The event, which started as a small party in 1989, now attracts up to a million people.
SUNDAY 16 JULY
Space trip:
The space shuttle Discovery is scheduled to return to the Kennedy Space Center after spending about eight days docked with the International Space Station. Crew members Mike Fossum and British-born Piers Sellers plan to carry out two or three space walks.
